journalistic ethics

• Journalism in KBBI (2003 : 326) is related to journalism. Whereas, a man who worked in the journalism world is called journalists.

• In conducting their activities, the journalists are required to comply with the code of journalistic ethics that have been set by the board of the press.

• According to the Law of the Republic of Indonesia number 40 year 1999 on the Press, chapter 1 General provisions Article 1 Point 14 explains that the code of journalistic ethics is a set of professional ethics of journalism.

10 codes of ethics of journalism by PWI (Persatuan Wartawan Indonesia):

1. Journalists must be faithful and pious to the only one God, spirited Pancasila and obey the basic laws of the state of RI.
2. Journalists should be responsible and wise in choosing and broadcast works of journalism, for people who are related do not feel offended. Moreover, if this could endanger the safety of the nation and about SARA.
3. Journalists should be accountable for journalistic work. Do not twist the facts. In addition, journalists are also not allowed to broadcast the works of journalism that are defamatory, sadistic, and obscene.
4. Journalists are prohibited from receiving compensation from a person, or government agency related to preaching. He should not be paid to write news in accordance with desired by the informant.
5. Journalists should present the news in a balanced and fair, and should not be mixing fact and opinion. if the writings in the form of opinions, should be written clearly the author's name.
6. Journalists uphold the privacy of informants. He was not allowed to broadcast the works of journalism that harm the good name of a person.
7. The coverage should be able to build towards a better society, should not demean a person. Except the person has a negative impact on society.
8. In the moral nature of news, journalists are prohibited from harming the victim in any way.
9. Journalists should always introduce themself to the informant, that they are a journalist. They also must ask politely to get their materials.
10. Journalists should be by self-consciously perform error when there is news that is not accurate, and should be done quickly. In addition, journalists should provide an opportunity for speakers to use the right of reply.
